Ed Helms has announced a new live stream program entitled Whiskey Sour Happy Hour. The weekly stream will find the multi-talented actor mixing music and comedy with a variety of guests, drawing inspiration from Helms’ long-running Whiskey Sour Radio Hour shows at LA’s Largo (and Bluegrass Super Jams at Bonnaroo) to bring world-class music, comedy and interviews directly into homes across the country and world.

For the first installment of Whiskey Sour Happy Hour, Helms has recruited Billy StringsLee Ann WomackAubrie Sellers, and Madison Cunningham. The show, a digital version of Helms’ regular program at Largo in Los Angeles, will air every Wednesday at 8 p.m. through May 13th on The Bluegrass Situation‘s YouTube and Facebook pages.

In a trailer announcing the weekly streams, Helms also hinted that he would “Rope in some of my comedy buddies for the occasional goofy chitchat.” Helms, who is a co-founder of The Bluegrass Situation, also revealed that future installments will feature Chris Thile, Yola, Sarah Jarosz, Rhiannon Giddens & Francesco Turrisi, Rodney Crowell, Aoife O’Donovan, Robert Ellis, Watkins Family Hour, and more to be announced.

While the streams are free, Helms encouraged fans who watch to donate to The Bluegrass Situation, who will split donations between MusiCares’ COVID-19 Relief Fund and Direct Relief. Helms assured viewers, “It’s completely free, but like I said, it’s a benefit so if you watch the whole thing and you don’t make a donation, I mean come on, right. Don’t be a jerk.”

A statement from The Bluegrass Situation co-founder Amy Reitnouer Jacobs expanded on Helms’ “don’t be a jerk” sentiment,

As soon as we realized the severity of the current crisis, Ed and I both knew we had to do something to support both our musical and medical community—and not just a one-time thing, but something that could promote more sustained giving through multiple shows. In a short amount of time, our BGS family of artists has come together in such a big way to make this happen. It makes us feel like even though we’re all separated right now, we’re closer than ever before.
