Last weekend, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder delivered a headlining performance at the second annual Innings Festival, held at the Tempe Beach Park & Arts Park in Tempe, Arizona. The two-day event, produced by C3 Presents, also saw performances from Incubus, Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Eat World, Cake, Band of Horses, Grouplove, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Blues Traveler, Shakey Graves and more.

Every spring, the Phoenix area hosts Major League Baseball’s Cactus League Spring training, with 15 teams preparing for opening day spread throughout 10 stadiums. While at Innings Festival, Vedder, a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, stopped by Ryan Dempster‘s Off The Mound talk show for a chat about baseball and more. Vedder had an in-depth discussion with the former Major League pitcher and longtime Chicago Cub, which included memories of his first game with his grandfather at Wrigley Field, the hardships and disappointment associated with being a lifelong Cubs fan, and Chicago’s 2016 World Series victory.

Luckily, multiple fans in attendance captured video of Vedder and Dempster’s discussion, which you can watch below:

During Vedder’s performance at Innings Festival, he played a rendition of the Jason Isbell-penned tune “Maybe It’s Time”, sung by Bradley Cooper‘s in the Oscar-nominated film, A Star Is Born. The performance was particularly significant, as Cooper’s character in the film was based largely on Vedder himself. You can watch that performance and read more about its various layers of significance here.
