Eddie Vedder paid tribute to Tom Petty in honor of the fifth anniversary of his death on Sunday, coinciding with the Pearl Jam frontman’s Ohana Festival at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, CA. Vedder joined festival headliner Stevie Nicks on the Fleetwood Mac singer’s 1981 duet with Petty, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around”, and welcomed Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell to sit in on two Petty tunes during Vedder’s solo set.

The first collaborative Petty tribute came during Nicks’ headlining set on Friday, September 30th. A few songs into the set, she played “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around”, a song Petty wrote with Mike Campbell for her 1981 album Bella Donna that features his backing band the Heartbreakers on the recording. Vedder emerged to join in on the tune to play Petty’s part of the duet.

Vedder then returned the following night for a headlining set with Earthling backing band, featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. During the set, the band welcomed Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell, who had already played three Tom Petty covers during his Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs set (“Fault Lines”, “Even the Losers”, and “Runnin’ Down a Dream”). Together they played a cover of “Room At The Top”, which has appeared on Vedder setlists in the past. Eddie then addressed the crowd, saying “It’s turning into Tom fest this weekend and I couldn’t be happier about it,” before playing the Tom Petty classic “The Waiting”, another song familiar to the band, with Campbell on guitar.
