Eddie Vedder brought The Earthlings Tour through Ingelwood, CA’s YouTube Theater on Friday night for a one-off performance in the L.A. venue. The Pearl Jam frontman led his band through a variety of originals from his latest solo album, Earthling, and even welcomed several special guests to the stage throughout the evening.

Coming off shows in Washington and Oregon, Vedder made his way to Los Angeles with the same all-star cast of characters he has had all tour. The group of musicians included Red Hot Chili Peppers members Chad Smith (drums) and Josh Klinghoffer (guitar), as well as Chris Chaney (bass), Andrew Watt (guitar), and the multi-instrumentalist Glen Hansard. After opening with a cover of R.E.M.‘s “Drive”, the first guest of the evening took the stage, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers co-founder, Benmont Tench. Together, the group of musicians worked through Tom Petty’s “Room at the Top” and Vedder’s own “Long Way”.

The meat of the set included several more Earthling tracks, as well as a cover of The Who‘s “I’m One” and Pearl Jam’s “Wishlist”. Eddie’s daughter Olivia Vedder then joined in on the fun for a take on her original “My Father’s Daughter”. By the end of the set, Tench rejoined the stage for Pearl Jam’s “Better Man” and came back for the first half of a seven-song encore. The encore opened with Marvin Gaye‘s “Baby You Don’t Do It”, followed by another Petty tune, “The Waiting”, and then George Harrison‘s “Isn’t It a Pity”.

Tench then exited the stage for the final time as the encore continued with Pearl Jam’s “Dirty Frank” and “Porch”. Yet another special guest appeared at the YouTube Theater to assist Vedder and his band during the final two songs, this time it was The Police and Oysterhead drummer Stewart Copeland. Copeland lent his services on a cover of The Police’s “Message in a Bottle” and then a show-closing take on Neil Young‘s “Rockin’ in the Free World”.
