On Sunday, January 23rd, Eggy delivered a four-song set opening for Dopapod at The Bluebird in Bloomington, IN, a video of which is now available on the band’s YouTube page.

Coming amid the bands’ 2022 winter tour and just two nights after a raucous show at Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, OH (1/21), Eggy treated fans to an all-original set, priming the crowd for Dopapod’s headlining performance. Drummer Alex Bailey held down the lead vocal duties on the opening “Apology”, a song penned by guitarist/vocalist Jake Brownstein and his writing partner Patrick Amarante. Brownstein, keyboardist Dani Battat, and bassist Michael Goodman all added some polished backing vocals before dropping into “Finding and Losing”.

This “Finding and Losing” went the distance, stretching for nearly 20 minutes. Fueled by some stellar keys work from Battat, Brownstein guided the early part of this jam vehicle with his vocals and lead licks on guitar before Goodman and Bailey jumped in the driver’s seat and navigated the quartet through the meat of the improv section. They explored dark sonic valleys and crested uplifting peaks over 17 minutes before finally arriving back at the comfort of the song’s structure and delivering a bit of mid-set banter.

After explaining away some van troubles that prevented the group from making its scheduled opening appearance the night before in Covington, KY, Brownstein laid down a quick, distorted riff that signaled the beginning of “12 Pounds of Pain”. It was then Battat’s time to handle lead vocals on this upbeat tune as his hands slid up and down his keyboard in lockstep with Brownstein’s fingers on his fretboard. Before the set came to an end, “12 Pounds of Pain” slipped into “Today and Tomorrow”, capping an unfinished version from Beachland Ballroom two nights prior.
