Live for Live Music Presents
Eddie Roberts West Coast Sounds End of the Funking World Party
It’s About Time Record Release
BB King’s Blues Club – New York, NY
December 21st, 2012
11pm-4am
If what they Mayans predicted is true and the end of the world is really coming, we might as well party like it, right? And what better place to party than New York City, wouldn’t you agree? Then come join us in the heart of NYC in Times Square at BB King’s Blues Club, on December 21st. Without further adieu, L4LM is proud to bring you the Eddie Roberts West Coast Sounds: End of the Funking World Party, featuring Eddie Roberts of The New Mastersounds, celebrating the release of his new solo album It’s About Time. More information and tickets are available here.
Roberts will be leading an all-star cast of musicians, which will include Adam Scone (Mofro) on the Hammond B3 organ, Jermal Watson (Dirty Dozen Brass Band) on drums, Peter Apfelbaum (Trey Anastasio Band) on saxophone, Steven Bernstein (Levon Helm Band/Sex Mob) on trumpet, and some very special guests.
Also on the bill on this special night will be Borahm Lee’s Dopamine Project; many of you know Lee from his work in Brooklyn electronic duo Break Science with Adam Deitch. The Dopamine Project is a launch pad to a collaboration Lee and Roberts have been planning for the last year. Expect a killer set with some sit-ins bound to happen.
Roberts just came out with his new solo album It’s About Time, which has received rave reviews, and is ready to bring down the house at BB King’s with this incredible ensemble. As always, Roberts’ guitar playing is visceral and downright funky. Check out a stream of the album here, and be sure to listen to a unique take on Gotye’s “Somebody I Used to Know”.
“‘Somebody’ is a cheeky one we threw in there to turn a few heads,” says Roberts. “When I first heard the original, I immediately imagined it with an Afrobeat groove, which is unusual for a group that uses a Hammond organ to produce bass lines rather than a bass guitar. In fact, I couldn’t think of a similar example, so I really wanted to give it a go.“
This End of the Funking World Party is set to go all night, so be prepared to get your funk on, cuz there ain’t no party like a New York party, cuz a New York party don’t stop….well, at least until the world ends. We will see you there!
