Looks like St. Patty’s Day just got a little funky.  On Saturday, March 16th at Le Poisson Rouge from 1pm-8pm our good friends at Equifunk will be presenting the Leprechaun’s Ball, an all-day celebration of drinking, dancing and merriment in honor of good ol’ St. Patty (insert Irish brogue here).  Headlining the show will be Brooklyn’s The Pimps of Joytime, bringing their brand of “janxtafunk” to LPR for all to get down to.  Supporting acts include Turkuaz, I’ll Be John Brownand Gepetto (who will be opening and spinning in between sets).

What could be better than getting your Irish on all afternoon into the early evening to some super talented bands?…….Exactly!  Absolutely nothing!  And you even have your choice of purchasing a General Admission ticket and paying to drink as you go (if you can’t keep up with those of us that descend from the Emerald Isle) , or going all-out Irish and grabbing yourself an All-Inclusive Admission ticket with a 6-hour open bar.  Either way, you can’t go wrong.  Keep an eye out on L4LM’s Facebook page for a ticket contest to the Leprechaun’s Ball in the coming days.

And expect some big initial lineup announcements at the show for this year’s All-Inclusive Equifunk Music Festival, set to take place the weekend of August 16th-18th in Equinunk, PA in the Pocono Mountains.  L4LM heard about some of the acts that will be announced, and let’s just say this year’s festival will be even bigger, better and, most importantly, FUNKIER than last year’s lineup.  Early-bird tickets will be on sale at the show, and there will also be a ticket giveaway for this year’s festival.

Here is the what you need to know:

The Pimps of Joytime – If you have yet to encounter the Brooklyn-based band, The Pimps of Joytime, prepare to take a funky ride! The PJT’s live events and recordings have captivated fans all across the country, as they have begun writing their own success story, show-by-show, and track-by-track. Bandleader Brian J is a charismatic and soulful visionary, whose well-crafted songs invite the listener to enter a world of infectious dance grooves and indelible melodies. With a mixture of funk, soul, dance, and pop music, The Pimps have a sound that has party written all over it.

Turkuaz – the definition of Brooklyn Power Funk. Their stage show combines influences from Sly and the Family Stone to Talking Heads into an explosive auditory and visual circus, a full-frontal assault on the senses. After multiple residencies at NYC’s Brooklyn Bowl, several blowout festival performances (Bear Creek, Mountain Jam, Strangecreek, Equifunk and Wormtown to name a few) and tours spanning the east and west coasts, Turkuaz has developed a reputation from NYC to San Francisco as the band that plays louder, faster, and harder than all the rest. Check out L4LM’s Straight From the Artist Feature with lead guitarist and founder Dave Brandwein here.

I’ll Be John Brown – I’ll Be John Brown is a 5-piece locomotive mixing Bluegrass, Outlaw Country, and good ole fashioned Rock and Roll to create their own driving sound built on airtight rhythms and layered vocal harmony. Established in Brooklyn in 2005, their flare for performance has elevated them within the Brooklyn country scene as well as up and down the east coast. With influences ranging from Waylon, Hank, Dylan, and the Allmans, they turn up the volume and tempo on traditional Americana. IBJB’s high powered honky-tonk can turn any party into a barn burner.  Check out our feature on I’ll Be John Brown from last summer.

Gepetto – our good friend Gepetto, aka Abe Lichy (who played our End of the Funking World Party w/ Eddie Roberts) will be spinning a set of his brand of nu-disco, which will lend itself perfectly to what we are trying to accomplish at the Leprechaun’s Ball – which is to have the best time possible.
