On the first night of Umphrey’s McGee’s snow-shortened three-night run at NYC’s Beacon Theatre, the band encored with a very special tribute to David Bowie. Playing “Space Oddity > Fame,” Umphrey’s absolutely nailed the covers and captured the hearts of everyone in attendance.

It seems that, before the show even began, the band was visited by some old friends. Umphrey’s has provided music from ESPN’s Around The Horn in the past, and hosts of the show Tony Reali, Pablo Torre and Frank Isola hung out with the band backstage. The group, meanwhile, were practicing their Bowie tunes, and the ESPN hosts joined in for a singalong version of the two covers.
