Vulfpeck offshoot The Fearless Flyers have shared a video for a new song, “Introducing Delta Force”, from their forthcoming LP, Tailwinds. The band—comprised of Vulfpeck bassist Joe Dart and touring guitarist Cory Wong alongside drummer Nate Smith and Snarky Puppy guitarist Mark Lettieri—initially announced the album by launching a crowdfunding pre-order on qrates. “Introducing Delta Force” follows “Nate Smith is the Ace of Aces” (a reworked version of “Ace of Aces” from the first Fearless Flyers EP) as the second song released from the record.

Much like The Fearless Flyers “introduced” themselves with “Introducing The Fearless Flyers” on their debut EP, “Introducing Delta Force” calls attention to the band’s newly-added horn section, comprised of Alekos Syropoulos (on “small sax”), Kenni Holmen (on “medium sax”), and Grace Kelly (on “big sax”). The track’s credits note that the horn parts were arranged by Michael Nelson.

The new song, as usual, was shared by way of a live, in-studio performance video. As the scrolling text explains while the blistering funk track moves along, “Delta Force is an elite horn section.”

Their “elite” abilities are on display throughout the song, which slips from fast-paced grooves to melodic interludes that will sound familiar to fans of Vulfpeck and Cory Wong—and a Joe Dart bass breakdown that is sure to leave Vulfpeck fans salivating. Much like the album’s first single, “Nate Smith is the Ace of Aces”, the clip also shows off Smith’s always-impressive chops on his newly-expanded drum kit. Watch the new video below:

The Fearless Flyers have only ever played a handful of live shows, but they’ve made them count. In addition to nabbing Jamiroquai‘s Jay Kay for a 2018 sit-in during their first-ever official live show, the Fearless Flyers have appeared at a handful of high-profile Vulfpeck dates including 2019 gigs at Red Rocks and Madison Square Garden.
