Erica Mack, a 28 year old security guard, is fighting for her life after being trampled by a mob at Ultra Music Festival. The guard was managing the walkway near the InterContinental Hotel when the crowd decided to force their way through the chain-link fence.
Lt. Ignatius Carroll stated, “They saw an opportunity to try to get in without paying. There must have been a whole lot of people. We found her on the ground, screaming in pain.”
As of 7 p.m. Saturday night, she was listed in critical condition. Eyewitness Ivette Lozano stated that she saw a group of people looking for a weak spot in the fence, when one kid began sprinting towards it.
The security guard was screaming for them to stop, “but the kid didn’t listen. As he began to climb the metal rungs, the flimsy fence bent underneath him. Then his buddies began pushing forward as well, toppling the fence on top of Mack and crushing her beneath their feet as they poured inside Ultra.”
This incident adds to the list of reasons that politicians and other people want to end Ultra in Miami. Aside from the security guard, several other people were treated by Miami Fire-Rescue on Friday night alone.
