According to research by Fender, the average guitar player spends around $10,000 in their lifetime on gear. This figure comes from Fender CEO Andy Mooney in a recent interview he did with Guitar.com.

Mooney discussed the research with Guitar.com in reference to the different educational tools offered by Fender. As he states in the interview, Fender Songs is a new app that will enable users to practice and play along to millions of songs and artists. Mooney also states in the interview that Fender Songs was designed to get beginners hooked on playing the guitar. The apparent goal of the tools Fender has developed is to grow the number of lifetime players, effectively in turn, growing the guitar industry.

“Someone who commits to the instrument for life has a lifetime value of $10,000. They buy five to seven guitars over their lifetime, multiple amps, multiple accessories. They drive the hardware side of the business,” stated Mooney.
