Flea has a new podcast, This Little Light, in which the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist will explore the earliest musical memories and influences of a diverse group of guest musicians and producers.

Set for release on March 30th, the 15-part series will include interviews with Rick Rubin, Cynthia Erivo, Thundercat, Patti Smith, and Margo Price. Each episode of the podcast will feature conversations about the guests’ entree into the world of music, including topics like their first teachers, influences, experiences, and the ways in which their early development helped shape their careers in music.

The podcast’s focus on artists’ musical growth was inspired in part by Flea’s Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a nonprofit organization and music school he founded in 2001. A portion of the proceeds from the podcast will benefit the school’s operating costs and scholarship program.

“I wanted to do This Little Light to benefit my music school, the Silverlake Conservatory of Music,” said Flea. “The idea behind it being music education, falling in love with music and embarking on a musical journey for your life. Everybody’s path is so different, and it’s fascinating to learn how every musician came to music and developed their study of it over time.”

Flea will join Red Hot Chili Peppers on a world tour in support of their recent albums, Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen, set to kick off on March 29th, the day before the podcast premieres. The tour’s North American leg will run though May 25th, followed by a European leg in June and July.
