Tonight is David Letterman’s final night hosting The Late Show, and he’s certainly had a great number of musical guests bid him farewell over the last few weeks. Dave Matthews, Bob Dylan, Eddie Vedder, Tom Waits & more have all performed recently, but perhaps the most fitting group of all will perform tonight: The Foo Fighters.

The two Daves – Grohl and Letterman – have had a long history together, beginning in 2000 when Letterman had open heart surgery. The host said the Foo Fighters’ song “Everlong” was instrumental to his recovery, and the band performed the hit upon Letterman’s return to the program.

Ever since then, Letterman has held the Foo Fighters in high regards. The band recently held a weeklong residency on the show in October 2014, in promotion of their album and docu-series Sonic Highways. Letterman’s Worldwide Pants company was involved with the production of the series as well.

Be sure to tune in, tonight, for what is sure to be an emotional send-off to the legendary David Letterman.
