Surprise! Foo Fighters fans have been eagerly tuning into the band’s website, as a countdown clock was launched several weeks ago. When the timer finally reached 00:00:00, the big news was revealed – The Foos had a surprise EP filled with five new original songs.
Titled Saint Cecilia, the album was recorded at the Hotel Saint Cecilia in Austin, TX. As Dave Grohl explains, the EP has taken on a whole new meaning since the Parisian attacks, and is dedicated to “celebrat[ing] life and love with you.”
You can download the whole album for free via the new Saint Cecilia website, and pre-orders for vinyl copies are underway as well.
The iTunes description perhaps most appropriately summarizes the album: This five-song EP captures nearly forgotten moments from the band’s 20-year odyssey—a brilliant patchwork of pieced-together riffs and song fragments that were tracked in an impromptu studio at Austin’s Hotel Saint Cecilia. The road-tested band blasts through the set of scrappy guitar-driven rockers with high-volume fury. Polished? No way. But the rowdy performances and rough edges makeSaint Cecilia pack a visceral punch.
