Rising hip hop icon Kendrick Lamar was lauded for his recent album, To Pimp A Butterfly, with some outlets contending that the release was among the best hip-hop albums in years. Leave it to FOX News to completely misinterpret Lamar’s emotionally-charged offering, with anchor Geraldo Rivera saying that Lamar and the genre have “done more damage to young African-Americans than racism in recent years.”

This comes just days after FOX News’s Sean Hannity compared the music of Prince and Beyonce to the Confederate Flag, in what can only be described as a disgusting appeal to boost ratings. Why else would multiple FOX News correspondents go on the offensive against hip hop music? It’s the only reasonable explanation for the network to compare multiple hip hop artists to racist agendas.

Rivera specifically took offense at Lamar’s recent performance at the BET Awards, where he stood atop a police car and sang “We hate the po-po, wanna kill us dead in the street fo sho.” Rivera called the whole scene “exactly the wrong message.”

No, Geraldo, you’re the wrong message. He concludes the segment by saying that “hip-hop is the real oppressor of black people,” in hopes of adding insult to injury.
