Galactic has shared an updated take on “Something’s Wrong With This Picture” with fellow New Orleans musicians Ivan Neville and recent collaborator Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph

The new version of the song which originally appeared on Galactic’s 1996 debut album, Coolin’ Off, hears the band revisit the theme of injustice and inequalities that face black Americans continue to face at a moment when cities across the country are engulfed in race-inspired movements and police protests.

The black and white video was filmed inside the temporarily-closed Tipitina’s nightclub in New Orleans and shines a spotlight (literally) on the two guest singers along with the band as they perform the song inside a darkened venue.

“In light of the current events, we felt the original message of this song has a very strong relevance today,” bassist Robert Mercurio mentioned in a statement to go with the new video.

Galactic drummer Stanton Moore also added, “Faced with the gravity of recent events, we felt that redoing this song now would hopefully spread a message of awareness. We believe that we need to do more to show that we stand with our Black musicians, friends and heroes against violence, injustice and inequity. We will not be silent. Black Lives Matter.”

Galactic, Neville, and Joseph had all teamed up earlier this spring for a new take on “Wash Your Hands” during the peak of the COVID-19 breakout. Galactic had spent much of the first quarter of this year on tour celebrating the band’s 25th anniversary in 2020 before the sudden pause on all live events.
