On Saturday, December 26th, 50+ artists and hundreds of thousands of viewers around the world came together for Georgia Comes Alive, a virtual music festival aimed at promoting voter participation in Georgia’s Senate runoff elections on January 5th, 2021, which saw a record-breaking voter turnout.
One of the many iconic NOLA acts to funk up Georgia Comes Alive was Galactic who covered The Police‘s “Walking On The Moon” at their very-own Tipitina’s in New Orleans. This rendition of the Reggatta de Blanc track got a bit beefed up thanks to Galactic’s extensive lineup, at least when compared to the original trio configuration of The Police.
With bassist Rob Mercurio holding down the low end with the song’s infectious bassline, the horn section of Ben Ellman on saxophone and Shamarr Allen on trumpet are able to add some texture. Together with vocalist Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph beside guitarist Jeff Raines and drummer Stanton Moore, the group gives a full-bodied performance of the cover which receives some extra reggae flair.
