For the 17th year, the Gathering of the Vibes will bring it’s eclectic mix of music, arts, camping, and a general appreciation of the Grateful Dead sub-culture to the Northeast on July 19th-22nd. From what started out as a 1996 memorial party for Jerry Garcia on the campus of SUNY Purchase, the Gathering of the Vibes has transformed into the one of the New York area’s premiere music festivals, featuring huge names like Crosby, Stills, and Nash, The Allman Brothers, George Clinton and P-Funk, and all the living members of the Graetful Dead. For the eighth consecutive year, the festival returns to Seaside Park in Bridgeport, CT, just a short trip from New York City.
This year’s recently announced line-up is stacked with familiar faces, up and coming bands, and of course, a full helping of the Dead. Headliners include sets from Phil Lesh and Friends, Bob Weir & Bruce Hornsby with special guest Branford Marsalis, and Primus. Other artists include The Avett Brothers, Mickey Hart Band, Yonder Mountain String Band, Zappa Plays Zappa, STS9, 7 Walkers featuring Bill Kreutzmann, The Greyboy Allstars, George Porter Jr., Keller Williams, The McLovins, and Dark Star Orchestra. Late night sets will be provided by Conspirator, The Gigantic Underground Conspiracy, and the Royal Family Ball featuring Soulive and Lettuce.
