Indie-jam outfit Ghost Light has announced that Taylor Shell, best known for his work as a founding member of Turkuaz, has joined the band as its new bassist. Shell will step in for former bassist Dan Africano, who is parting ways with the group. Africano joined the band in 2019 as a replacement for original member Steve Lyons.

Taylor Shell will round out the latest iteration of Ghost Light alongside Tom Hamilton and Raina Mullen on guitar and vocals, Holly Bowling on keys, and Scott Zwang on drums. As the band noted in its announcement of the lineup change, “Big news in Ghost Light world! We’re beyond excited to welcome Taylor Shell to the band as our new bassist. We are loving the energy he’s bringing to the songs and know that you’ll love him as much as we do. We wish Dan Africano all the best in his future musical adventures and our neverending thanks for his contributions to the music, the great hangs, and fantastic cat content! #maggie4ever”

Shell has remained relatively quiet since the sudden dissolution of Turkuaz last fall. In a post on his social media accounts, Taylor addressed his excitement for this new chapter in his career:

Well the internet, after a long and tumultuous few months for me personally, I have some very exciting news! I will be joining one of my favorite bands in the whole wide world, Ghost Light! My long time friend, bass brother, and all around amazing human Dan Africano is moving on and I was so thrilled to be asked to join this incredible group of musicians and people. I couldn’t be more excited for this next phase of my life! Thank you to Tom, Holly, Reina, and Scotty for welcoming me into their wild and beautiful musical adventure. Be kind to each other friends, and we’ll see you out on the road.

Taylor Shell will begin his new chapter with Ghost Light when the band hits the road for a 2022 spring tour beginning on March 25th at The Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA. “Keeping our eye on the future,” the band noted in its announcement, “we have all kinds of new material in store for this tour and we can’t wait to see you all out there in a couple weeks!!!”
