The foot-stompin’, folk-hollerin’ boys of The Ghost of Paul Revere have officially released their new EP, Field Notes Vol. 2, the follow-up to 2015’s Field Notes Vol. 1. The highly anticipated release includes a diverse mix of covers, previously unreleased tracks, and live takes from last year’s Ghostland event.

The concept behind the Portland, Maine-group’s Field Notes series is that each volume is a snapshot of where the band is at that time. For guitarist/vocalist Griffin William Sherry, it “brings to mind sketchbooks, traveling, and a feeling of history.” Adds banjoist/vocalist Max Davis, “The Field Notes are a collage of songs, sonically and thematically, and I think of them as bootlegs or basement tapes.”

The EP kicks off with a rootsy take on Billy Preston classic “Nothing From Nothing” before delving into previously unreleased original tracks “Eleanor” and “As We Know”. The next three tracks, “Mountain Song”, “After Many Miles” and “Little Bird”, were recorded live at last year’s Ghostland, an annual festival hosted by the band in their hometown of Portland, ME over Labor Day Weekend. The EP is rounded out by a deeply soulful original, “Maria”.

In addition to core members Sherry, Davis and Sean McCarthy (bass/vocals), the EP features contributions from drummer Chuck Gagne and harmonica player Jackson Kincheloe (Sister Sparrow) on “Nothing From Nothing”. “Eleanor” and “As We Know” were produced by Jonathan Wyman and feature Tony McNaboe on drums. The three live Ghostland tracks were recorded and mixed live by Jim Begley, and feature Andrew Hodgkins on drums, Ben Cosgrove on keys and acordian, and Kevin Oates on cello. “Nothing From Nothing” and “Maria” were produced by Field Notes Project Manager Spencer Albee. The EP was mastered by Adam Ayan at Gateway Mastering in Portland, ME.
