Glass Beams, the masked Melbourne-based psychedelic funk trio, have released a new single, “Mahal”, from the band’s forthcoming EP releasing on March 22nd.
With a hypnotic, mystifying groove, the first single from the highly anticipated followup to Glass Beams’ debut EP, Mirage, draws from Indian music and classic psychedelia.
“My father was born in India and moved here when he was 17, and in searching for new energy and inspiration to write music, I dug around for music from my father’s hometown and surrounding areas,” Glass Beams said, adding that “Indian classical, 70’s disco and pop music” formed the building blocks of the band’s first record. “As soon as I had that vision of what I wanted to write and why I wanted to write it, the songs just flowed out really.”
