Earlier this summer Global Citizen announced the return of its New York City event at the Central Park Great Lawn on Saturday, September 28th with scheduled performances from Queen + Adam Lambert, Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, Carole King, Jon Batiste & Stay Human, and more. On Monday, it was reported that Global Citizen is now planning a massive, multi-national concert event similar to 1985’s Live Aid to take place in 2020.

According to CNN, Global Citizen is planning a one-day, multi-nation concert event to be named, Global Goal Live: The Possible Dream, and will take place in cities around the world on September 26th, 2020. The 10-hour event will be spread out across five continents in an effort to raise money for the United Nations‘ global development initiatives. Global Citizen aims to make Global Goal Live the largest live broadcast in “cause event history,” according to a press statement.

A press conference on the proposed event will take place later this month on September 26th where the names of artists already confirmed to participate will be announced. The press conference will also mark the start of a year-long effort to enlist other financial partners for the one-day event.

“The campaign is being launched now because the next 18 months will shape the future of humanity,” Global Citizen also shared in a statement. “It’s the last chance to course correct to end extreme poverty, tackle climate change and reduce inequality in time to reach the 2030 Global Goals deadline agreed to by all world leaders in 2015.”

Tickets for Global Citizen’s New York City concert later this month are free of charge for fans who take a series of actions to create lasting change in underdeveloped or impoverished countries around the world.
