Goose made its way back to Swanzey, NH for a show at the rebranded Northlands on Friday, offering a debut from the group’s new studio album Shenanigans Nite Club. The Connecticut quintet last performed at the Northeast venue on October 3rd, 2020 when it was still known as Drive-In Live.

Opening with the Peter Anspach-led “Elizabeth”, Goose was underway with the band’s first show since a two-night run at The Caverns Above Ground Amphitheatre in Pelham, TN May 8th and 9th. The cobwebs (if any) shook off immediately as the band moved with purpose through “Arcadia”. The resulting jam of “Arcadia” took on an altered form from previous versions, adding a new dimension to the live staple. “Drive” came next followed by “Lead The Way” which was proceeded by the first cover of the night with Radiohead‘s “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi”.

Though Radiohead is not a common band for improvisationally-minded bands to cover, Goose was able to open the In Rainbows track into a substantial jam that featured lasting elements of the genre-defying English group. Goose didn’t break stride as it took a leisurely stroll down “Wysteria Lane” before tying up “Loose Ends” to wrap up the first set.

Goose returned to the stage to offer the debut of “The Labyrinth”, a track pulled from the band’s new album Shenanigans Nite Club. A track that already runs 12 minutes in studio, “The Labyrinth” was primed and ready for substantial improvisation as the band took its time feeling out the downtempo vehicle. Rolling into a cover of Pat Benetar‘s “Love Is A Battlefield”, audiences may have experienced a slight tinge of whiplash with the 80s rocker, but it served a larger purpose in setting the stage for Peter’s dance club anthem, “White Lights”.

As the set wound down, a “Jive II” flowed into a creepy “Creatures” before Goose tried to fit in one more with “Slow Ready”. Unfortunately, the stiff 10 p.m. curfew at Northlands fell only minutes into “Slow Ready”, which was ultimately cut short and the show ended sans encore.
