After making a memorable appearance at BottleRock Music Festival and celebrating the start of the band’s summer 2025 Everything Must Go headline tour with two nights in San Francisco, Goose headed north to Oregon’s high desert on Friday and settled in for a summertime heater at Hayden Homes Amphitheater in Bend.
Kicking things off with “Your Direction”, played for the fourth time ever and making its first-ever appearance in the opening slot, Rick Mitarotonda, Peter Anspach, Trevor Weekz, and Cotter Ellis found their groove early on before playfully stoking regional biases with a cover of Ilsey Juber‘s “No California”.
They continued to stretch out on a string of fan favorites, with “Rockdale” > “Hungersite” marking the peak of the first set’s improvisatory exploration, clocking in at 15 and 17 minutes respectively, and closed the first set with “Give it Time”, the uplifting lead single from the band’s new album, Everything Must Go.
The highlight of the night arrived at the start of set two with a shape-shifting “Thatch” jam that transformed but didn’t relent for nearly 30 minutes, making it the longest and most memorable jam of the show. That left time before the venue’s hard curfew for a trio of substantial jams on “Feel it Now”, “Travelers”, and “Elmeg the Wise”, a cleverly placed cover of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes‘ “Don’t leave me this Way”, and a scorching “Hot Tea” encore.
