This past weekend, Goose played a pair of drive-in shows at the Yarmouth Drive-In on Cape Cod, which marked the band’s first performances to live audiences since the pandemic began. In addition to the live audience, the show was streamed for the couch tour crowd via LiveXLive. Both nights featured support from DJ Doey Joey.

The CT-based “indie groove” act was in the midst of a noteworthy surge in popularity when the onset of COVID-19 forced the cancellation of their ongoing tour back in March. Since then, they’ve found various ways to satiate their burgeoning fanbase, from Rick Mitarotonda and Peter Anspach‘s acoustic performances as part of Live From Out There to the band’s creative virtual Bingo Tour in June. Of note, both the acoustic performances and the Bingo Tour shows featured Rick and Peter’s roommate/quarantine buddy/multi-instrumentalist Jeff Arevalo. Arevalo, now an official member of the band, joined Goose on percussion at the Yarmouth Drive-In for his first full live shows with the band.

The performances confirmed that the band hasn’t lost a step after six months away from the stage, as they delivered two nights of exuberant playing on their strong catalog of original tunes, go-to covers, and improvisational expeditions. Each of the two performances also included a cover debut, with NRBQ‘s “Howard Johnson’s Got His Ho-Jo Workin'” opening Friday night’s show and an out-of-left-field reimagining of Elvis Presley‘s “His Latest Flame” popping up during the first set on Saturday.

While Friday’s show came and went without an encore, Goose returned to the stage following Saturday’s second set for trio of appropriate encore tunes: Bruce Hornsby‘s “That’s Just The Way It Is”, Goose original “Drive”, and The Clash‘s “Rock The Casbah”.

Goose will take the stage once again this week for a two-night run of socially distant “pod” shows at South Farms in Morris, CT. For more information on the Wednesday, September 16th and Thursday, September 17th Goose shows in the band’s home state, head here.
