Gorillaz have returned with Episode Two of their “Song Machine” series, this time collaborating with Malian musician Fatoumata Diawara on their newest track, “Désolé”.

“Désolé” follows “Momentary Bliss”, which saw the “animated band” collaborate with slowthai and Slaves during Episode One. Much like Episode One, Episode Two of “Song Machine” came in the form of a music video, which depicts Diawara, Damon Albarn, and fictional vocalist and keyboardist 2-D enjoying a boat cruise on Lake Como in Italy.

The video opens at the Gorillaz’s Kong Studios, where 2-D discovers a hidden door that transports him to a dock on the Italian lake. The other members of the band, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs, follow to enjoy the beautiful scenery, while Murdoc finds himself unable to find his way out of the studio. A steady, bass-heavy groove carries throughout the song and features vocal harmonies from Diawara and Albarn in English, French, and Bambara. A string-laden breakdown provides a base for 2-D’s vocal work before Noodle and Russel ramp the tempo up from the dock. The end of the video then teases the next episode by depicting 2-D driving through a town, perhaps eluding to the Tame Impala collaboration tease from earlier this month.
