Gorillaz will return to live perfomance for the first time since 2018 with the SONG MACHINE LIVE virtual concerts, the group announced on Thursday. The livestreamed concerts will see the animated band, led by Damon Albarn, debut the songs written for its collaborative online series, Song Machine.

Since launching back in January, the Song Machine series has found the virtual band collaborating with Robert SmithScHoolboy Q, Octavian, Tony Allen and SkeptaPeter HookGeorgiaFatoumata Diawaraslowthai, and Slaves throughout the series’ six episodes. Earlier this month, Gorillaz announced that the singles will be released as a compilation dubbed Song Machine: Season One – Strange Timez on October 23rd.

The livestream will air three times for different time zones from December 12th–13th. The show, presented through LIVENow, will air for Asia, Australia, and New Zealand at 8 p.m. JST on December 12th; in North and South America at 4 p.m. PST on the 12th; and in the U.K., Europe, and Africa at 7 p.m. BST on the 13th.

SONG MACHINE LIVE will feature Gorillaz’ resident animator Jamie Hewlett on visuals and a live performance by Albarn, also known as the band’s animated frontman 2D. The stream will see him united with his virtual bandmates; guitarist Noodle, bassist Murdoc Niccals, and drummer Russel, as well as the Gorillaz live band and a selection of artists featured in the Song Machine series.
