After being honored for their 39th performance at the venue on Monday, Gov’t Mule headed back to the Beacon Theatre on Tuesday to continue their annual tradition of ringing in the new year with their fans at the historic New York City venue. Just as they’d teased earlier this month, Mule’s three-set New Year’s Eve performance included a tribute to The Beatles and some late-show sit-ins from Conan bandleader/guitarist Jimmy Vivino.

Following their first of two year-ending shows at the Beacon on Monday, Mule opened their first set with a high-energy “Mr. Man”. The opening set continued with more Mule originals including “Lola, Leave Your Light On”, “Unring The Bell”, “Whisper In Your Soul”, and “Game Face” before moving into their first cover of the night with The Allman Brothers Band‘s “Mountain Jam”. The set continued with “Don’t Step On The Grass, Sam” and “Eternity’s Breath Jam” before closing with “Tastes Like Wine”.

Gov’t Mule returned to the stage to open their Beatles-inspired tribute set alongside guitarist Connor Kennedy with “Get Back” and “Don’t Let Me Down”. The classic rock covers continued with “I’ve Got A Feeling”, “One After 909”, and “Dig A Pony” before making way for the traditional take on “Auld Lang Syne” for New Years. An inspiring “Come Together” came next, followed by “Oh! Darling”, George Harrison‘s timeless love ballad in “Something”, and finally “I Want You (She’s So Heavy”).

The band’s final set of the evening was technically an encore, but lasted way longer than the typical quick return to the stage. The “third set” opened with “Brighter Days” into “Silent Scream” and “Scenes From A Troubled Mind”. The music kept rolling right into “Starship Trooper Jam” and “The Gates of Delirium Jam” before returning to “Scenes From A Troubled Mind” and “Silent Scream”, with Vivino joining in on guitar for the latter. Following “Lay Your Burden Down”, Vivino remained on stage to help play on “Lay Your Burden Down” and Howlin’ Wolf‘s blues classic “Smokestack Lightning”. Vivino stayed for one more tune in “Catfish Blues” before Mule sent fans into the night and new year with a closing rendition of “Bad Little Doggie”.
