Warren Haynes is back on the road with Gov’t Mule and bringing Blackberry Smoke with him, for what they call a “Smokin’ Mule” tour. On Friday, Mule welcomed Charlie Starr and Brandon Still for a 19-minute version of Neil Young’s classic “Cortez The Killer” in Asbury Park. Last night, they hit Boston’s Blue Hills Bank Pavillion and really let the Smoke rise.

With plenty of covers in Mule’s set, from The Beatles to the Grateful Dead, Haynes invited Blackberry Smoke’s Paul Jackson, Richard Turner, Charlie Starr, and Brandon Still back out to the stage for a double-man tribute, featuring Neil Young’s “Southern Man” and Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s “Simple Man”.
