The Grateful Dead has announced the latest release from the band’s archives, READY OR NOT, a mix of nine unreleased live versions of Dead originals from the tail end of their career which debuted in 1992 and 1993. The nostalgic look back at 90s Dead gives fans the chance to reflect on the then-new music which could have appeared on a new studio album from the band had Jerry Garcia not died in August 1995.
READY OR NOT is scheduled for a limited release of just 10,000 copies when the collection of live recordings arrives on November 22nd—just in time for Record Store Day‘s slate of Black Friday releases. The archival release will be available on both CD and a 180-gram 2-LP set.
Songs to be featured on the album include “Liberty” at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY (10/14/94); “Lazy River Road” at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill, NC (3/25/93); “So Many Roads” at Star Lake Amphitheatre in Burgettstown, PA (6/23/92); “Easy Answers” at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA (9/13/93); and “Days Between” at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland, CA (12/11/94); just to name a few.
The band shared the recording of “Lazy River Road” from the Dean Smith Center on 3/25/93 to go with the album’s announcement. Listen to the new recording below.

The Dead’s archivist David Lemieux shared his thoughts on the band’s latest archival release in saying:
“‘Ready Or Not’ has been a long time coming. It’s an album we’ve been working on for many, many years. This batch of ‘new’ Grateful Dead songs has never been compiled in one place and given its proper due as a huge part of the Dead’s late-era legacy. Many of these songs can easily stand alongside some of the Dead’s oldest, most-loved songs as bona fide classics despite their short tenure in the repertoire. We’ve dug deep into the archive and listened to countless live versions of these songs to find the best, most definitive live performances. When the Grateful Dead were ‘on’ in their later years, their live concerts were as good as any era in their history. The nine songs on Ready Or Not exemplify how good the Dead could be in their later years of touring.”
