The Grateful Dead webcast series Shakedown Stream will return for its final weekly installment this Friday, August 7th. For this week’s broadcast, the band will air a previously-unreleased show from World Music Theatre in Tinley Park, IL on July 21st, 1990.

While this does mark the end of regular, weekly installments of Shakedown Stream, the series will return periodically. The next broadcast will be on Thursday, August 27th with a 48th-anniversary showing of the Sunshine Daydream concert that took place in Veneta, OR on August 27th, 1972.

As always, this Friday’s webcast will feature a pre-show chat with hosts David Lemieux and Gary Lambert, where they will be joined by Bob Weir. Weir previously joined the Shakedown Stream pre-show on May 7th to talk about how he’s been spending his days in quarantine.

This previously-unreleased Grateful Dead concert from 7/21/90 marked the beginning of a three-night run at World Music Theatre that would close out the band’s 1990 summer tour, and would also mark the final concerts played by keyboardist Brent Mydland. Brent, the longest-serving Dead keyboardist, who played with the band from 1979–1990, died of a drug overdose five days after this concert. While this isn’t his final show, with its the tear-jerking “The Weight” encore, it does contain some notable final performances of songs for the Dead, including Traffic‘s “Dear Mr. Fantasy” as well as Brent’s own “Just A Little Light”.

This Shakedown Stream will raise money for the Rex Foundation COVID-19 Relief Fund which, through the Dead’s own charitable Rex Foundation, will provide grants to nonprofit organizations responding to the global pandemic. The stream also comes as part of the ongoing Daze Between nine-day webcast celebration of the days between Jerry Garcia‘s birthday (August 1st, 1942) and the day he died (August 9th, 1995).

Scroll down to watch this week’s Shakedown Stream pre-show featuring Bob Weir followed by the full-concert webcast on Friday beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
