‘Tis the season once again to curl up by the Grateful Dead yule log. This year’s holiday hearth features recordings from the band’s June 1977 run at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom.

Captured on June 7th–9th, 1977, the live recording showcases the band’s lineup featuring Keith and Donna Jean Godchaux alongside core members Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart. The three-show run took place during what is widely regarded as one of the Dead’s strongest periods, occurring one year after the band returned from a 19-month hiatus, one month after the famous Cornell 5/8/77 show—which was part of the same spring tour—and shortly before the release of Terrapin Station in July 1977.

All three nights were released on October 1st, 2009 as Winterland June 1977: The Complete Recordings, which was the third Grateful Dead album to feature an entire run of concerts, following the releases of Fillmore West 1969: The Complete Recordings in 2005 and Winterland 1973: The Complete Recordings in 2008. Early shipments of the album included a bonus disc containing material from the Dead’s May 12th, 1977 concert at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago. That entire performance later appeared on the May 1977 box set.
