In a strange series of events during Wednesday night’s Green Day concert at Comerica Park, the band abruptly ran offstage in the middle of a song due to an apparent emergency. Local law enforcement later explained that the presence of an unidentified drone in the ballpark’s airspace was the cause of the brief, tense pause.

Per The Detroit News, “At 8:50 p.m., about 20 minutes into the concert and during the second chorus of the band’s hit single ‘Longview,’ the band members dropped their instruments and were rushed from the stage. After a few minutes of silence, a message popped up on the video screens reading, ‘Show Pause. Please standby for details.'” Crowd-shot videos show a crew member running onstage to alert the band of the situation, after which the members of the group—Billie Joe ArmstrongMike Dirnt, and Tré Cool—quickly exit the stage.

“There was an individual that flew a drone into Comerica Park, so Green Day was taken off stage,” Detroit police Corporal Dan Donakowski later said in a statement. “Shortly after that, they went back on stage to perform. DPD located this individual outside of Comerica Park. He is being detained pending further investigation.”

After 10 minutes of tense waiting, the band returned to the stage. “Everybody OK?” Armstrong asked the tens of thousands in attendance before requesting that they put their phones away and remain in the moment following the uncomfortable pause. The band resumed “Longview” where they had left off and the remainder of the show went on without incident.

Widespread panic and concern about the prospect of terrorism at large-scale concerts has been notably front-of-mind in recent weeks following a foiled terror plot surrounding a planned three-night run of stadium concerts by Taylor Swift in Vienna, Austria last month. Per The Associated Press, “The CIA notified Austrian authorities of the scheme, which allegedly included links to the Islamic State group. The intelligence and subsequent arrests ultimately led to the cancellation of three sold-out Eras Tour shows, devastating fans who had traveled across the globe to see Swift in concert.”

CIA Deputy Director David Cohen addressed the failed plot during the annual Intelligence and National Security Summit in Maryland last week. “They were plotting to kill a huge number — tens of thousands of people at this concert, including I am sure many Americans — and were quite advanced in this,” Cohen said at that time. “The Austrians were able to make those arrests because the agency and our partners in the intelligence community provided them information about what this ISIS-connected group was planning to do.”
