Green Leaf Rustlers have shared the third single off their debut album, From Within Marin, in the form of a cover of Gram Parsons‘ “Big Mouth Blues”.

The band, a venerable who’s who comprised of Chris RobinsonBarry SlessGreg LoiaconoPete Sears, and John Molo, bring their classic country-rock energy to the Parsons tune from his 1973 album GP. As Robinson’s familiar holler comes through the speaker, punctuated by roaring pedal steel guitar work from Sless, the band reveals itself as more than the sum of its parts. Rather than focusing on the combined experience of the group, which includes time with Phil LeshThe Black CrowesJefferson Starship, and many more, the group’s tenure together is what comes to the forefront of the song.

With From Within Marin, the Rustlers have sought to bring their live sound, usually confined to Marin County and the Northern California area, to audiences throughout the country for a change. The group enlisted the help of longtime Grateful Dead audio engineer and producer Betty Cantor Jackson to capture their live sound at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, CA on March 27th–29th, 2018. The double album that resulted from those shows archives the band’s high-energy performances, featuring other classic covers of Johnny Cash‘s “Folsom Prison Blues”, JJ Cale‘s “Ride Me High”, The Rolling Stones‘ “No Expectations”, Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup‘s “That’s Alright Mama”, and many more. From Within Marin is due out on March 6th via Silver Arrow Records and is available for pre-order here.

Green Leaf Rustlers don’t have any upcoming shows, as Robinson is currently on the road with his brother Rich Robinson on the duo’s acoustic Brothers Of A Feather tour, which will be followed by the highly-anticipated Black Crowes reunion tour. Head to the band’s website for tour dates and information.
