Green Leaf Rustlers have announced their debut album, From Within Marin, set to arrive via double vinyl on March 6th. The band comprised of Chris Robinson, Barry Sless, Greg Loiacono, Pete Sears, and John Molo recorded their “cosmic country” style of music during various live performances in 2019 that were recorded by legendary audio engineer and longtime Grateful Dead archivist, Betty Cantor Jackson.
The album includes the band’s live takes on The Rolling Stones‘ “No Expectations”, Gram Parsons‘”Big Mouth Blues”, JJ Cale‘s “Ride Me High”, and Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup‘s “That’s Alright Mama”. The recording of the latter was shared with the album’s announcement on Thursday.

“The Green Leaf Rustlers are a Marin County hippie hayride,” Chris Robinson said about the relatively new project. “Rockin’ and rollin’ through our favorite classic cosmic country covers and keeping the good people dancing the night away under star-filled western skies.”
Fans can catch the Green Leaf Rustlers when the band sets up shop for a three-night New Year’s run at Felton, CA’s Felton Music Hall on December 29th and Mill Valley, CA’s Sweetwater Music Hall on December 30th–31st. The band doesn’t gig outside of California very often, although they did perform a trio of shows in Alaska this past spring.
News of the album’s forthcoming release in early 2020 comes after Robinson made big headlines earlier this fall when he announced he and brother Rich Robinson agreed to play nice and go back on tour with each other with an updated iteration of the Black Crowes set for summer 2020.
