It was anything but a “Casual Wednesday” last night at Dillon Amphitheater where Greensky Bluegrass employed a bit of setlist theatrics to reference its favorite day of the week. The 17-song show employed a jukebox’s worth of covers to spell out “Casual Wednesday” with the first letter of each song by the time the encore came around. The move could be interpreted as a nod to Phish who enjoyed its own trend of hiding messages in setlists at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in nearby Commerce City outside Denver.

The first set started off normal enough, as the quintet mixed in old favorites like “Cold Feet” and “All For Money” beside cuts from the new album, Stress Dreams, “Screams” and “Until I Sing”. Following a run through “All Four”, Greensky Bluegrass dished out the first cover of the evening, Joshua Davis‘ “Last Winter in the Copper Country” before capping off a relatively brief, six-song first set.

Set two of Wednesday’s concert was devoted entirely to covers, starting off with Prince‘s “When Doves Cry”. In total, Greensky Bluegrass delivered covers of “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” (Tears For Fears), “Dancing In The Dark” (Bruce Springsteen), “No Expectations” (The Rolling Stones), “Exactly Where I’m At” (Ween), “Stop That Train” (Jimmy Cliff), “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” (Simple Minds), “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More” (The Allman Brothers Band), and finally “You Ain’t Going Nowhere” (Bob Dylan).

Returning for the encore, dobroist Anders Beck cued the audience in on the band’s antics before leading a fitting rendition of “Casual Wednesday” before New Grass Revival‘s “Can’t Stop Now” threw one more cover on the pile.
