Greensky Bluegrass continued their New Year’s Eve run of shows on Monday with their return to The Riverside in Milwaukee, WI. The band treated the night’s attendees to a mix of special guests throughout the performance as the high-energy jamgrass outfit and their fans continue to charge into the new year in the “Cream City.”

The band once again received opening support from Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, and came firing right from the start with “White House Blues”. After playing a few original selections, the band invited up Keith Kinnear and Dylan Langille to the stage to play woodblock on “Fixin’ To Run”. While the two performers are merely a roadie and photographer, respectively, their contribution to the overall energy of the room was palpable. After that the band played “Murder Of Crows” and “When I Get My Hands On You”, before diving into a sporadic rendition of “Broke Mountain Breakdown” which saw teases of “Girlfriend Is Better” by Talking Heads, “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath, and “Smoke On The Water” by Deep Purple. The band wrapped up the set, and the aforementioned homage to classic rock, with a take on Jimi Hendrix‘s “Crosstown Traffic”.

The second half of the show opened with “The Four”, which included quotes from Lou Reed‘s “Walk On The Wild Side”, before segueing into “Just Listening”. Later in the set during “Train Junkie”, the band once again inserted lyrics from another well-known rock tune in the form of David Bowie‘s “Space Oddity”. This then set off a transition of “Roberta” into “In Control” into “All For Money”, followed by a rendition of “Old Barn” which featured a new musical arrangement. The set then closed out with “Worried About The Weather”.

Greensky came out for the encore and welcomed Adam Greuel of Horseshoes & Hand Grenades to lend a hand on “No Expectations” before sending the Milwaukee crowd out into the night, hungry for Greensky’s impending New Year’s Eve show on Tuesday.
