Greensky Bluegrass made their way to The Egg Performing Arts Center in Albany, NY for a casual Wednesday eggstravaganza last night. Nestled inside The Egg’s nearly-1,000 person capacity Kitty Carlisle Hart Theatre, Greensky treated fans to a balance of tasteful covers and bluegrass originals with the occasional “egg” pun sprinkled in.

Following an opening set by Ghost Light, the quintet made their way to the stage in the sold out room. Members Paul HoffmanAnders BeckDave BruzzaMichael Arlen Bont, and Mike Devol started things off with a cover of Flatt & Scruggs‘ “Bringing in the Georgia Mail”. It didn’t take long for the band to start making egg references. After “Lose My Way” came a rendition of “Dustbowl Overtures” in which Hoffman changed the lyrics to “like a soft-boiled egg.”

The bluegrass veterans then moved through “Better Off”, “Hot Dogs (On Parade)”, and “I’d Probably Kill You” before the egg puns returned. During a rendition of Hot Rize‘s “Nellie Kane”, the lyrics were changed from “’til then I was the rambling kind” to “’til then I was the scramblin’ kind”. They then closed set one with “What You Need”, “Broken Highways”, and “Courage for the Road”.

Set two began with the much-anticipated pre-song egg puns from the members of Greensky Bluegrass before launching into “Take Cover”. “Collateral Damage”, “Do It Alone” and “A Letter to Seymour” followed before the customary Wednesday night rendition of “Casual Wednesday”.

The five-piece proceeded with “New Rize Hill” before a cover of Bruce Springsteen‘s “Atlantic City” segued to “Just Listening”. A cover debut of Paul Simon‘s “Mother and Child Reunion” preceded the Airborne or Aquatic? cover, “Exuberance”, which segued into “Kerosene” to close out the second set.
