Richmond, VA-bred alien thrash metal band GWAR has announced a new studio album, The New Dark Ages, due out on June 3rd. Alongside the new album, the interplanetary warriors will release a graphic novel, titled GWAR in the Duoverse of Absurdity.

The New Dark Ages will mark GWAR’s 15th studio album following 2017’s The Blood of Gods.

“This is the greatest rock record of all time,” promised frontman Berserker Blóthar in a press release. “These are the songs for a new age, a New Dark Age, when men live by the dimming light of a technology destined to betray them. Listen, as we have a rock and roll orgy in the ruins of the world to celebrate humanity’s descent into an age of darkness, disease, ignorance, and death.”

Upon its release, GWAR will join the likes of Sturgill SimpsonThe DoorsGrateful Dead, and more as the latest band to partner with Z2 Comics. The Scumdogs of the Universe and two-time Grammy losers promise a dark and violent experience for the forthcoming graphic novel.

“This was the most utterly engrossing book I’ve ever read!” explained GWAR guitarist Bälsäc The Jaws ‘o Death. “I couldn’t wait until I’d read what was on the page before I was compelled to turn it! This novel has the one element that is missing in so many so-called literary masterpieces: It’s about me!”

“GWAR has made sure that this story is a full throttle hysterical ride into tipping every sacred cow possible and I consider it an honor to help bring this chapter of the band’s legacy to fetid, pulsing, life,” added Rantz Hoseley, editor at Z2 comics.

The band will offer The New Dark Ages and GWAR in the Duoverse of Absurdity in a variety of packages in formats. In addition to CD, vinyl, and cassette options, fans will have the option of several different merch bundles, including one that contains a Schecter Custom Shop Balsac Guitar, signed by Bälsäc himself.
