High Sierra Music Festival made its triumphant return to Quincy, CA over Fourth of July weekend with four days of musical revelry and community fun.

Celebrating its 32nd year, the sprawling yet intimate festival hosted a number of unforgettable collaborations and performances, including many of the innovative playshops for which the event has become known.

Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz (ALO) lived up to his “artist at large” role, once again participating in numerous sit-ins and playshops, as he has in years past, and hosting his annual Lebo: 50 Years In The Rearview playshop, which this year featured a special guest appearance by Eggy and keyboardist Holly Bowling. He also sat in with Friday night headliners Greensky Bluegrass, who performed in their 6reensky format with Bowling.

Other memorable performances included Primus, Ziggy Marley, The Allman Betts Band, and Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew‘s Remain in Light set featuring Cool Cool Cool, plus returning High Sierra favorites Steve Poltz, The California Honeydrops, and second artist at large Scott Pemberton. The festival’s late-night pairings were also a weekend highlight, including Cool Cool Cool and The Polish Ambassador on Thursday, The Floozies and  Jason Leech on Friday, Ghost-Note with Eddie Roberts & the Lucky Strokes on Saturday, and Magic Beans with Orgōne on Sunday.

Throughout the weekend, many artists took time during their performances to pay tribute to High Sierra and DelFest founder Roy Carter, who passed away in April from congestive heart failure at the age of 68. As a major proponent of building community through music, he was a beloved figure in the world of live music whose influence will continue to be felt for years to come.
