While many people may think of the jam band and the electronic worlds separately, over the years, the genres have collided. Acts like STS9, The Disco Biscuits, and Lotus have pioneered jamtronica, and increasingly, jam bands and electronic acts have consistently shared the top of the bill at festivals across the country. However, Horizon Wireless, a drummer and DJ duo based out of New York City, has combined jam bands and electronic dance music in a new way, releasing a remix album of fifteen different jam bands.
Dubbed Reimaginate, Horizon Wireless’ new album features remixes of bands from across the spectrum. The oldest band represented, of course, is The Grateful Dead, in the form of a fresh take on “Help On The Way”. Reimaginate also samples long-standing fan-favorite jam bands, such as Phish (“The Moma Dance”), Umphrey’s McGee (“Bright Lights, Big City”), STS9 (“Scheme”), moe. (“Crab Eyes”), Widespread Panic (“Pickin’ Up The Pieces”), The Disco Biscuits (“Little Betty Boop”), String Cheese Incident (“Rosie”), Lotus (“Plant Your Root”), and Lettuce (“Sounds Like A Party”). However, Horizon Wireless has also sampled a number of breakthrough up-and-comers on the scene, with takes on tracks from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Papadosio, Dopapod, Twiddle, and Spafford. The album’s cosmic cover art was designed by VolNaro Rock & Roll Art Design.
