Rising British-Irish underground rock outfit IDLES has announced its largest tour of North America. Set to carry the band through 2022, the tour announcement arrives alongside a music video for “CRAWL!”.
The first leg of the band’s 2022 North American tour is anchored around appearances at Coachella on April 15th and 22nd. The quintet begins the jaunt on March 23rd in Mexico City prior to its first Coachella slot. IDLES then hits Denver, CO’s Mission Ballroom (4/19) and Salt Lake City, UT (4/20) before heading back to Indio for another spot at Coachella. The band then jets back to Europe for the rest of spring and into late summer.
IDLES will re-emerge stateside at This Ain’t No Picnic in Pasadena, CA (8/27–28). After that, the band will move its way eastward with stops in Arizona, Texas, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ontario, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., New York, and finally Massachusetts. Along with the announcement, IDLES shared a new video for “CRAWL!”. The track from the band’s 2021 album CRAWLER captures the underground essence of IDLES. Singer Joe Talbot‘s lyrics are anything but lo-fi, as he relates his struggles with addiction through the song’s pounding instrumentation.
On “CRAWL!”, Talbot tells listeners,
[T]his is the turning point, after you’ve crashed. It’s a good anthem for me to discuss with people who aren’t on the other side or who aren’t sober. You’re not the best version of you and you need to hold yourself accountable for your addictions and who you’re letting down. But it doesn’t mean you’re a bad person. “Crawl” the title is like, keep going. You’ll get there. “Crawler” is like the character of me in the dark warmth of my addiction — a crawler, a night crawler, someone on their knees, someone praying, someone surviving. The grit of it. The weight of the world on you. All of those things is a “crawler.”
