Beloved musical funnyman Jack Black has earned a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his ballad “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The song debuted at number 83 on the chart with 5.8 million U.S. streams and 6,000 downloads in its first week. Black’s duo with Kyle Gass, Tenacious D, has placed on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot 200 charts before, but this is his first time charting as a solo artist.

Black’s over-the-top performance of the song is a highlight of the film, which continues to break box office records in its third week in theaters. His character, Bowser, delivers the song passionately while sitting at a grand piano in a humorous musical interlude, expressing his love for Princess Peach (voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy).

“Jack Black is an incredible singer and musician, so we spent a night writing the song and sent the demo to Jack. A couple days later, Jack sent us back a finished track,” said the film’s co-director Aaron Horvath. “He had added his own twist on it and his pianist played an original music track for it. We were blown away.”

A music video directed by Cole Bennett and released via the Lyrical Lemonade YouTube channel shows Black dressed in a Bowser-inspired green suit and red headdress belting his ode to Peach with his signature bravado. The video has racked up over 23 million views at the time of publication. Check it out below.
