Fans waiting for a full-fledged Jane’s Addiction reunion will have to wait a little longer, with news that former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer will replace Dave Navarro on upcoming tour dates. This news comes as Navarro continues to recover from the same bout of long COVID that kept him off the road last fall when Jane’s hit the road with The Smashing Pumpkins.

“We’d like to address the questions surrounding Dave and the upcoming Jane’s shows,” Jane’s Addiction wrote in a statement. “As a band we are in a great place, writing new music, and the bond is tighter than ever. We all hope Dave can be out playing with us; when he feels healthy and ready.”

Last year saw Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen step in for Navarro. On Jane’s Addiction’s upcoming U.S. West Coast and international Lollapalooza dates, the band has tapped Klinghoffer, who just like Navarro, used to play guitar for Red Hot Chili Peppers. A statement from Jane’s Addiction noted that the band will announce more international dates soon.

“We want to thank you for being there with us over these thirty-some-odd years. You know, we’re going to keep throwing down for you. Perry, Eric & Stephen”

Since leaving RHCP to make room for longtime on-again, off-again guitarist John Frusciante in 2019, Klinghoffer has become a go-to hired gun for arena rock. Coming out of COVID lockdowns, Klinghoffer landed himself a spot in Pearl Jam‘s touring lineup in addition to Eddie Vedder‘s backing band for his solo Earthlings Tour (alongside Klinghoffer’s former RHCP bandmate Chad Smith). Most recently, Klinghoffer joined Iggy Pop‘s backing band The Losers, featuring  Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses) and his Earthlings bandmates Smith and Andrew Watt.
