January 14th Is Now Officially ‘Allen Toussaint Day’ In New Orleans

It was a unanimous decision to declare Allen Toussaint‘s birthday, January 14th, an official day to honor the late musician. Thanks to the New Orleans City Council, they passed a resolution to permanently celebrate the date as “Allen Toussaint Day”.

“Our artists and musicians are our ambassadors, as their talents, hard work, and genius creates the culture for which we are internationally known. Their travels share that culture with countless individuals and communities, and their successes and creations infuse our city with a vibrancy and soul unmatched elsewhere in the world. Allen served our city as one of our finest ambassadors,” said Councilmember Susan G. Guidry, the author of the resolution.

The city’s sincere attempt to honor a man that honored the city so well is just another reason why New Orleans is one of the greatest places on Earth.
