Timeless songwriters Robert Hunter & Jerry Garcia were included in the 2015 class of inductees for the Songwriting Hall of Fame, alongside such musicians as Willie Dixon, Cyndi Lauper, Linda Perry, Tony Keith and Bobby Braddock. The pair were nominated back in October, but the inducting class was only revealed this morning.

The group will be inducted at the Marriott Marquis in NYC on June 18th, with additional honorees announced soon. A statement by Songwriters HOF president Linda Moran reads: “Our 2015 lineup of inductees represents the rich diversity of American musical styles – rock, country, blues and pop – that have captivated the world over the past six decades. Each of these brilliant music creators have written instantly recognizable classics, songs that are both of their time and timeless.”

Hunter & Garcia penned numerous Grateful Dead classics together, including “Friend of the Devil,” “Truckin’,” “Sugaree,” and so many more. Interestingly, the pair edged out nominees like Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Steve Winwood, Steve Miller, Ann & Nancy Wilson (Heart), and Cat Stevens. It seems the inductee class was shaped for diversity, as the group includes songwriters from blues, folk, pop, country, and rock and roll.

Congratulations to Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia!
