In a new interview with the New York Times, My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James talks in-depth about a number of plans that the band has for studio releases. Fans will recall that James promised two new albums towards the end of 2014, and delivered on half of that promise with a masterpiece in 2015’s The Waterfall.

It seems that James now has plans for album number two, as well as some other projects. “Another Jacket record is in progress… I’ve just recently rediscovered this desire for scorching rock ’n’ roll, and that’s hopefully what we’ll get around to,” said James in the interview. We can certainly get down with some MMJ rock ‘n’ roll.

The article also revealed Jim James’ plans to release a new solo record, simply writing “Mr. James has a solo album on the near horizon, most likely arriving in the fall.” However, the majority of the piece focuses on James’ decision to re-release the group’s 2003 release, It Still Moves. According to the article, the new version will feature new mixes of the original tracks, three unreleased songs from the same recording session, and some “spooky, self-contained demos” for ten of the original songs, recorded on a four-track tape in Jim James’ bedroom.

Speaking about the new re-release, James said:

“It Still Moves” is really the only record in our catalog that I’ve always felt I wanted to remix. Part of the fun of that record was that we recorded it all to tape, and it was all super-duper organic. But when we mixed it originally, we didn’t have enough time. We thought we were happy with it, but there are certain things that bothered me when I would listen to it, like, “Oh my God, you can’t hear that guitar solo.”
