There is no denying that Jimmy Herring is a force to be reckoned with on the guitar. From his days in the Aquarium Rescue Unit to The Allman Brothers Band, The Dead, Widespread Panic, and most recently, Jimmy Herring and the 5 of 7, Herring continues to exceed expectations with his exceptional playing.

Today (January 22nd) marks Herring’s 58th birthday, and there is one standout moment from the last few years that we couldn’t resist sharing. During a Widespread Panic performance at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion in Charlottesville, VA, in April 2016, Panic unleashed a soaring rendition of the Parliament-Funkadelic song, “Maggot Brain”. Herring took the lead throughout, nailing the Eddie Hazel melody with some of his own flare for a masterful performance.

Take a listen to Panic’s performance of “Maggot Brain” from April 28th, 2016 below, as captured by PanicStream, and rejoice in the musical wizardry from the birthday boy.

Happy birthday Jimmy!
