There is no denying that Jimmy Herring is a force to be reckoned with on the guitar. From his days in the Aquarium Rescue Unit to The Allman Brothers Band, The Dead, Jimmy Herring and the 5 of 7, and of course Widespread Panic, Herring continues his reign as one of the premier guitarists in the jam scene with his exceptional playing and showmanship.

Today, January 22nd, marks Herring’s 62nd trip around the sun, and there is one standout moment from the last few years that we couldn’t resist sharing. During a Widespread Panic show at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion in Charlottesville, VA, on April 28th, 2016, Panic unleashed a soaring rendition of the Parliament-Funkadelic song, “Maggot Brain”. Herring took the lead throughout, nailing the Eddie Hazel melody with some of his own flares for a masterful performance.
