The 37th annual Tibet House Benefit Concert took place on Monday at Carnegie Hall, gathering a diverse slate of artists to support the preservation of Tibetan culture. One of the highlights of the all-star concert was a collaboration between Joan Baez and Maggie Rogers on the Bob Dylan classic “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright”.

The folk icon took the stage toward the end of the marathon performance, which also witnessed sets from Laurie AndersonGogol Bordello, Rogers, Maya HawkeTenzin Choegyal, and more along with event mastermind Philip Glass. Baez has been performing “Don’t Think Twice” for nearly as long as Dylan has, releasing a live version of the cover on Joan Baez in Concert, Part 2 just six months after Dylan first released the song on The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan in 1963.

Baez and rising art-pop singer-songwriter Rogers form a vocal yin-yang as they trade off verses and come together for the chorus. Their joint performance reflects the passage of time for Baez, the boundless future for her 29-year-old duet partner, and the everlasting nature of the song which has maintained its relevancy for over 50 years. After Gogol Bordello performed, Baez and Rogers closed out the show by leading an ensemble version of “We Shall Overcome”, another staple of Baez’s shows since the civil rights movement.
