The Joe Marcinek Band just released a new video from their album-release party at the High Noon Saloon in Madison, Wisconsin, on December 14th of last year. The video shot by Joe Ramos captures the band, which, in addition to Marcinek, consists of Joey Porter (The Motet), Tony Hall (Dumpstaphunk), Pete Koopmans (Family Groove Company), Jonathan Hoel, and Andrew Traverse, performing the song “Bernie” off the ensemble’s latest album, SLINK.

The track is a tribute to funk icon Bernie Worrell, the elite keyboard player associated with Parliament Funkadelic, The Talking Heads, and a great number of other acts, who was working on the track for SLINK before his death. Worrell recorded the lead melody for the song at his home studio in March of 2016, with the track becoming a living tribute to the legendary musician and taking the title “Bernie” after his passing later in the year in June. Marcinek had this to say of the band’s performance of “Bernie” captured in the new video: “This was the first time I had been back to the High Noon Saloon since playing there with Bernie on January 2nd, 2016. It was very emotional for me to be playing a song Bernie had recorded but never got to play live. Our drummer, Pete Koopmans, said he could feel Bernie’s spirit in the air.”
